Subject:           ADPH / OEMS & Trauma Protocols

 

 

The State Emergency Medical Control Committee and the State Committee of Public Health have approved changes / additions to the current EMT-Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic protocols.

 

Implementation / use of the protocols will be on an organization-to-organization basis.  Each organization must provide documentation that all of their EMTs have completed the education.

 

BREMSS will offer several classes for trainers on this process.  DVDs of the protocol update from ADPH / OEMS&T (Dr. Campbell), as well as material to complete the reporting of the education, and the “turn-on” process for the new protocols will be presented.

 

While attendance at one of these sessions at BREMSS is not mandatory, we solicit your organization’s participation.  If your organization elects to not attend one of these sessions, please contact Joe or John, but please call after Wednesday, August 13th, 2008.

VIOLENT PATIENT MANAGEMENT

The Birmingham Regional EMS System (BREMSS) and the Jefferson

County Sheriff’s Training Center is pleased to present the PPCT Violent Patient Management Instructor Course!

 

This exciting course is designed to train Fire, EMS, Police and medical

personnel in basic observation skills to recognize patient behavior that may put them at risk for injury. Additionally, the instructor-candidate will learn physical techniques to control violent patient behavior from low-level to high-level resistance while maintaining the utmost care for the patient’s condition. Don’t forget…it may not be the patient that becomes violent, but a patient’s family member, friend or bystander!

 

This nationally-recognized course has been presented to 50+ instructors state-wide and the user course to well over 200 Fire/ EMS/ Police/ medical personnel in Alabama and Florida.

Remember, this is an INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION course. The

instructor candidate will have to pass a written test with an 80% and pass a physical-skills test.

 

Your instructor will be W. Blake Strickland, BS, EMT-I/ Tactical Medic.

Blake has been in the EMS field since 1987 and has served as a full-time sworn police officer since 1990. Blake has presented use-of-force and tactical medical training locally, regionally and nationally to Fire/ EMS/ Police and medical personnel.
